A mishap occurred at the Pahiatua end of the Mukuri Gorge on Sunday afternoon as a result of which telegraph communication was interruptod tor some time. It transpires that cars driven by Air A. Beet ha m (who was en route to Pori fb visit his fcon) and Mr G. S. Bremner, concrete contractor, of Palmerston North (who was returning with Ins plant on a trailer from a job at Akitio) met in a narrow part of the gorge. Mr Bremner went over to the outside of the road to pass the oncoming car and his wheel went into a depression. The mudguard of his car apparently just grazed a telegraph post, causing the trailer to slew round and crash the post with somewhat disastrous results. Fortunately the car was not involved.
