WOMEN’S INSTITUTE.
KAITAWA MEETING. The November meeting of the Kaita.wa Women’s Institute was held in the hall and at this meeting the Institute's birthday was celebrated. The opening songs were sung, a motto read and the Creed recited. Visitors welcomed by the president were Mesdames Mathews. Ross, Allsop, Hunter, Prussing, Thompson. Paterson and Misses Fergus and Hun,. In a roll call “My favourite song” the old songs proved the most popular.
Mrs II Paterson gave an address and inspired by the motto read by the president, took her listeners to a scene she herself visited while abroad, “the preserved home of George and Martha Washington. ” 'the president thanked Mrs "patersou for the delightful talk and members applauded her. Several competitions "ere held the results being a.s follow—Musical parcel, Mrs Hunter; placing an eve in a pig, MesdiOn.es Pressing. Hohlaur.r and Thompson tied, anci ovontualfv Mrs Pnissmg was the winnei . Mrs Thompson carried off the prize for the most, words beginning with I hi a. given time and Mrs Paterson proved the winner in, the lucky card competition. A very nleasing Maori song was tendered by Mrs W. Burgess” Afternoon tea was served bv the hostesses, Mesdnmes W. and T Bur gess, and at this junction the birthday cake “made, iced and beautiful I v . lee-orated with pansies, the hancliufuk of the president” was placed Upon the table The Institute was honoured, Mrs I’russing lit, tbo; seven red candles. Mrs Allsup extinguished them and Mrs Paterson cut the cake. Visitors present wished the Institute best nl Juek and greetings were received from Mesdnmes Crewe. Austin, Hobbs and Watson, of the Peek oration and Airs McDonald, President of M align mu to Institute. A beautiful sugar spoon with institute badge on the handle was presented bo Mrs Gibson for institute use by Mrs H. Paterson. Aprs Gibson feelingly thanked Mrs Paterson for liekind act. Community singing was entered into and the singing of the National Anthem concluded a pleasant meeting.
