A BRUTAL ASSAULT.
WOMAN AND CHILD KICKED.
ACT OF “SAVAGE ANIMAL.” United Press Assn.—By Electric T elegraph—Copyright. SYDNEY, November 22. Sentencing Alick Bannerman, aged 62 years, to eight years’ imprisonment, Judge Markell described him as a fiend who behaved like a savage animal. Bannerman went to the home of Mrs Dorothy Houghton at Mosman seeking gardening work, and when she turned away he knocked her down and kicked her into insensibility. Bannerman did the same thing with her fomr-year-old son. Their lives were despaired of for three weeks. Fourteen stitches were inserted in the woman’s face, and a hundred in the son’s face, resulting in the permanent disfigurement of the child.
Biannerman expressed regret. He said his only explanation was that he was a wine-drinker and he was unable to control himself.
