General Franco officially thanks, Mussolini for the Italians’ assistance in the capture oi Santander. The Italian casualties at Santander from Aug.usf'l4 to 23rd have been, published and these show sixteen 'officers and 325 men kilkjd, sixty officers and 1616 men wounded. A Burgos message states that the capture of Port Uaredo with 5000 prisoners, making the campaign total of 51,000, is announced. While the Black Arrow divisions, after accepting the surrender of eleven Basque battalions, are steadily advancing along the coast to Santpna accumulating additional prisoners. Sanitary squads at Santander are cleaning the filthy streets and flushing drains and burning accumulated garbage to avert a threatened outbreak of fever. MADRID. August 27. Loyalist fighting planes drove off rebel bombers after bombing Gijon, where they kiled and injured several. ITALIAN GENERALS INVOLVED. ROME, August 27. The Press has the names of twelve Italian generals in addition to subordinate commanders assisting the rebels on the-Santander front.
