ENGULFS FIRE FIGHTERS. TRAPPED ON ROCK LEDGE. United Press Assn.—Bs Electric Telegraph—Copyright. NEW YORK. August 22. A message from Codv. Wyoming, says that 11 Civil Conservation Corps workers are deod, and 40 burned through being entrapped on a rock ledge while lighting a fire at Shoshoni National Forest due to ilit explosion of over-heated trees. Twenty-two of those injured were admitted to hospital after gruelling stretcher and ambulance trips down from the mountains. 5000 to. 9000 feet high where the file broke out. The leader, who was trapped with a group of men. said. “Tlie wind suddenly whipped the flames up to the very tops of the trees and encircled our party faster than we could run. I herded the men on to a ledge, ordering them to lie prone. “Several younger men. terrified at the approach of the flames. tore from the grasp of their comrades and ran out over the ledge and |>erished” Five hundred fire-fighters are expecting to control the flames by morning.
