Bush turned on a grand passing rush which saw Failover, Smith, McSherry, Twentyman, Lett and three or four more Bush forwards all combine in a thrilling attack which went from side to side and finished lip on the Horowhenua line where Hai- . vey was frustrated in his efforts to focore. Half-time came with Bush leading Id—s. He got the leather under liis arm after making a slight pause which enabled Henry to overwhelm him. The red forwards ran up fast and were on the hall before Horowhenua could cover up. Bailey then, flicked the ball up for a simple try which Twentyman failed to improve on. Bush 19 Horowhenua 13 Carmont gave the greens a great opportunity when he gathered in a Bush kick and shot through to half way where the ball went out to George on the right wing, the latter being thrown into touch by Bradbury whose tackling had been very sound since he had come on to the wing 111 place of Wolland who took Smith’s place when the latter retired hurt. Horowhenua were getting possession from the scrums and were using every effort to open up the game, Bush meeting them with good tackling and backing up. The green’s were dangerously close to the Bush line and with a quick heel out tho ball came back to Coles who had a fruitless pot. Once again Horowhenua heeled the ball back and in a flash it travelled out to H'enrv who beat Tait but fell to a fine tackle by Wolland. The latter saved Bush again a moment later with a timely mark in the face of a stiff forward rush. Bush were penalised on their 25 line and George kicked, a splendid goal. Bush 39 Horow lienua f <5 Another green rearguard movement saw Henry fall to a good tackle by l ait then back again the green rearguard came the ball shooting across the right wing to George who tore fiast \\ olla-nd for an equalising trv. Horowhenua .... iq Bush 19 .The Horowhenua supporters became wild with excitement with the scores even, and wildly cheered their plovers ill order to, encourage then, on to further heights. The hall was passed to the backs on everv possible occasion Smith and McSherry putting m some solid work tackling. Bush nmcic a last determined effort to regain the lead and Verry carried play* to the Horowhenua 25. The attack did not hear fruit and soon after the Horo.when.ua backs got going again. Time was up but the ball had not gone out ot play and the greens made a last desperate effort to poll off a victory. Carmont figured prominently in the movement which Bush tried hard to squash, but tile ball was shot out to George and the latter put on a fine swerving run which saw the latter dash over near the posts lor Kingsbeer to convert. The Southland Rugby representatives, holders of the Ranfurlv Shield scored their first win of the northern tour when th,, y defeated Wairarapa -o—-H at the Carterton Showgrounds on Saturday. It was a bright, caretree type of game in which the standard of play was consistently poor. J he chief feature was the number of stoppages for injuries. In hard-fought game, played as a curtain-raiser, the Rush junior representatives defeated the Wairarapa juniors 14—11. Rush led s—o at the interval. Ihere was little between the teams, and a decent goal-kicker might hav t » won the game for Wairarapa, for one of their tries was scored under the posts and the other one was well within range. For Rush Twentyman and Hughes each scored 11 fay and R. Murch got over for t vo, Welch converting one.
