“No cause of quarrel is sufficient to prevent reconciliation.” In connection with the annual Romney hogget competition, held under the auspices of the local branch of the Farmers’ Union Air C. B. Tvlee _ has donated £1 for the best pen of hoggets in the contest, woolly or shorn. The Mangamutu Miniature Rifle Club will fire the season’s sighting shots to-night. Several new members have been enrolled since last year and no effort will be spared to raise the standard of shooting m order to bring the coveted Byrne Shield toMangamutu. Among those who rode with the Dannevirke Hunt on Saturday were Misses E. Olsen and E. Tait, and Messrs E. Olsen, W . Olsen, Yal Tripe, < . Harvey and Doug. Biokliell, oi Pahiatua. Several of the young Pahiatua riders were ‘ blooded alter the kill—an occasion which caused much amusement. Attention is drawn xo an advertisement in this issue announcing the arrival oi the latest Fairy Down Quilts. These delightful quilts combine warmth with lightness and are showing in beautiful rucked and panelled effects The Wairarapa Funnels’ Co-op. Assn, are showing a large range. An accident which might have proved far more serious occurred on Tuesday at the Pongaroa Hospital. A steriliser which was in use suddenly exploded. The only occupant of the room, Sister M. Duncan, was thrown backwards by the force of the explosion. She received slight facial injuries and also suffered somewhat from shock. Considering the explosion was of sufficient force to knock objects of considerable size off the mantel-piece and shelves, she was fortunate to escape so lightly.
