KING'S THEATRE TO-NIGHT,
In the colourful, glittering atmosphere of the burlesque theatre, with its soubrettes, songs, clowns and comics, the action of the new Fox picture, “King- of Burlesque,” which comes to-night and to-morrow night to the King’s Theatre, takes place.
Warner Baxter heads the gala case of this picture, which includes Alice Faye, Jack Oakie, Arline Judge, Mona Barrie, Gregory Ratoff, Dixie Dunbar, Kenny Baker, Fats Waller and Nick Long, Jr., among the featured personalities. Although the picture is a revealing glimpse into the gandv world of burlesque, it does not confine its action to backstage drama, but 'launches into the life story of a genius of the theatre, played b> Baxter.
With his two trusted aides, Alice Faye and Jack Oakie. Baxter has climbed from side street honkytonks to Broadway’s glittering palaces. Then when lie falls in love with a lovely society woman who represents everything he had hoped to attain, ho deserts his erstwhile friends.
Things go from, bad to worse with Baxter, until his wife, Mona Barrie, deserts him. When things look blackest, Baxters old friends return to help him on the most spectacular venture of his life. The close of the film shows Baxter suddenly realising that it was Alice Faye he had loved all the time. r, 'he bevy of sparkling new tunes which features “King of Burlesque” were composed by jimmy McHugh and Ted Koehler. The story, an original by Vina Dolmar, was adapted to the screen by Gene Marke.y and Harry Tugend, and directed by Sidney Lanfield. In addition to this splendid feature. will be a number of vaudeville turns by Trevor and Dawn (Continental dancers), Roy Baker ( piano accordeonist) and Esme Chall (tap dancer and singer).
