Plain words on the New Zealand embargo on the direct miporta tion of live stock from the United Kingdom were listened to by the Minister of Agriculture, Hon. \V. Lee Martin, when he was present at the afternoon session to hear the debate on a remit from Grimsby urging the Dominion to reconsider its decision on the question, in irank hut friendly words, the Minister said that he could not say the embargo would be lifted, but he announced that the Minister ol Finance, Hon. YY. Nash, would fully investigate the question when he visited Great Britain shortly. The Government would then make a decision that would take nt * 1 ;:it the interests of all concerned. Mr Martin impressed uixni the congress that the feeling among the farmers of New Z _ st the lifting of the embargo was strong. The debate initiated on Tuesday on the increasing importation intro the British Empire of low-priced goods from foreign countries was concluded. Attention was focussed almost completely on Japan, and a wide divergence of opinion was disclosed, the Leeds remit l>eing carried in a modified form. Numbers of other subjects were discussed, and in the farewell proceedings which followed, high tribute was paid to the complete arrangements made for the congress by the Associated Chambers ol Commerce of New Zealand and to the Wellington chamber for the 1 tainment of the delegates and their wives.
