DUTY ON BUTTER !
A SUGGESTION DROPPED. ENGLISH AI.P. ASKS WHY. (Received 12.30 p.m.) United Press Assn.—By Electric lelegi uph—Copy right. LOXDOX. July 21. s lt is understood that behind Air Dorman Smith s question to Major Elliot and Air Waiter Ruueiman in tho Commons as to whether there was an understanding that no duty would be imposed on dominions dairy produce, is a search for the reason of the abandonment of the proposal which Major Elliot communicated to the Dominion Premiers in June 1935 that he intended to- impose, a duty of 15s per cwt. on Dominion butter and 1 30 son foreign supplies. Major Elliot and Mr Runciman were uninformative, but it. is generally assumed that the abandonment was not unconnected with Dr. Earl Page’s recent disI emissions with the Ministers.
