HUKA FALLS FATALITY.
SWEPT FROM LEDGE. TRAGEDY AT TAUPO. Electric Telegraph—Press Association ROTORUA, This Day. Swept from a rocky ledge while endeavouring to fill a kerosene tin with water Arthur Hodgson, of Rotorua, married, vith two children, aged about 28, is believed to have lest his lifts after being carried over the famous Piuka Falls near Taupo. Although there is no eye-witnesses of the actual happening Hodgson is understood to have attempted to fill a tin from the fast running waters about two hundred yards above the fall. He would be kneeling on a ledge about a foot above the level of the rapids and it is ,surmised that the force of the current caused him to lot*© his grip. He was employed on the contract for the erection of the new power house- for the supply of electricity for the Waimkei .Hotel. The f ireman of the works, W. Cunningham, and another employee, Ty Leonard, w hen crossing the bridge a moment after the tragedy saw 'the unfortunate man struggling to reach the bank but his valiant ecorts were unsuccessful and he was swept over the main fails the two men being powerless to assist. An extensive search was. immediately commenced by the Taupo and Retoiua police assisted by a number of men but although Hodgson’s hat and coat were found two miles below the fall no trace of the body has been seen up to early this morning;.
