TARARUA POWER BOARD.

_ THE TWO MONTHS’ WORK. E.SC-.NK.JYS ;'.K' O .s“'. The engineer (iMr D. Fraser) of the Tara run Electric Power .Board, reported at Friday's meeting of the Board, held at Eketahuna, as follows : “■The Te Awe Awe Road 3000-volt line’lias been changed over to 11,000voit to cope with the heavy loading (approximately 90 h.p.) used by the erusning plant of G:ll and Co., Ltd. “Owing to a demand lor range loading a iiO k.w. 3000-volt transformer has been erected on the iSewman Road and this now supplies the consumers beyond -Liverpool Mouse to Mr Migginson’s at the railway crossing. A defective. pole has been replaced in Macata Street. A 15 k.v.a. transformer lias been replaced by a 3 k.v.a. in the Mukanui area. Earth-testing has been completed and the result forwarded to the Public Works, Railway and Post and Telegraph Departments. The work of removing poles for the new road construction has now been completed, with the exception of the Newman railway crossing. This _ will be attended to when file ... thirty-five poles come to hand. 1 * ‘' The 3(X>O-volt fuses have been replaced at Mangatainoka and Ngaturi. Anderson’s transformer fused on two successive days, and afterwards the lines were carefully patrolled, a iault being located in the mains leading to a shearing shed. Faulty mains at the Tararua factory were responsible for an interruption to the supply in that area. Ridge Road and Ballance lines were closed down for a short period at midnight on the Bth and 9th of June to replace broken insulators. Corkhill’s 3000-volt line was shut down for half an hour in order to inspect and rebind transformer leads.

4 ‘On the evening of the 10th May a block of shops was burned clown in Main Street, Pahialua. Six meters, one time switch and two community lights were destroyed. On the 11th May, the Man garamarama linos were closed down for one and a half hours to change the cross-arms, and on the 12tli for three hours to ruR new wire from Main Street to the top of Brown's hill. “A single phase line has been run to Davidson’s, Kakariki, to supply Ids residence and cowshed. New transformers arriving have been dried out, oil filled and made ready for service on the new lines. Meters and time switches have been tested, tools retired and quite a number of old installations re-testecl. Maintenance work lias been carried out in both areas and new service lines run as required. \ 4 ‘New lino construction.—Makuri extension: The poles have been erected to Mr Ahrens* property, Ivaitawa. The line gang are now running the cable. Weather permitting, this section should be completed at about the end of July. ‘‘One hundred poles have been carted out to the A 1 f red ton extension. A gang has commenced on the construction work and, given favourable' weather, 1 hope to have the current available m Alfredton township at an early date.

. ‘ The proposition of reticulating Manga ma hoe lias been examined. The cost of the line will be in the vicinity of £1059, and settlers have been advised that guarantees amounting to €l6B will be required. Ihe calculation is on the 16 per cent, basis. If the work is authorised the construction could follow on the completion of the Alfredton line. 4 *Tn company with Mr Phil. Davies, 1 have spent some time with several Hukanui settlers, who are requiring additions to equipment, and they are prepared to consider guarantees if extensions are made to serve them. A further extension of the Alfredton line to serve Mrs Rutherford ujid Messrs Percy and Godinagh seems profitable. Permission is sought to proceed with this work provided guarantees are satisfactorily completed. “There are more wiring jobs on hand than contractors can cope with, and your executive must make some arrangement to meet the eniergencv. 44 The units registered a.t the Mangamaire Sub-Station for the quarter ending June 30tli wore 969.637. The peak load was 513.6 k.v.a. For the same period last vear the units registered were 935.942 with a peak load of 784.8 k.v.a., this showing an increase of 33,695 units and 28.8 k.v.a. respectively. ~ ‘‘Details of the connected loaa for the two months are ns follows ; Eke--Borough, light .300, heat 11.660, power 1.865, total 13 825country south, light 1.380 heat 31.00, total 32.430; Pahiatua Borough. light .800, heat 25.620. power .-43', total 26.857; country north, light 2.1(70, heat 39.700, power 1.745, total 43.545; totals, light 4.580. heat 108.030, power 4.047. total 116.657; deductions, lights 2.095 heat 9 588 power 1,492, total 13.175; nett, iight 2-485. heat 98.442. power 2 555 total 103.482.
