FARM WORKERS.
MUST STAY GN THE FARM. Electric Telegraph—Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. It is the intention of the Government to avoid any competition between the Public works Department and farmers in the engaging of Labour. This was made clear by the Minister of Public Works, Hon. R. Semple, this evening. “We are not going to allow men to gc away from the farm to jobs that belong to men now "We want to draw ali our men out of work," said Mr Semple from among the physically fit unemployed and if other men try to take their jobs we are going to put the ‘stepper’ on it. ! am going to strike a note of warning to those who might be just waiting to take the jobs of these men who have been without work for long enough, if they try that on, they will get a rude shock. Anything like that will be stopped. if it shows up we will tread on it good and hard.”
