CLERICAL WORKERS' WANTS.
BASIC WAGES AFTER 21. MEN £4 lOs; WOMEN £3 os. Electric Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, Last Night. Schedules of wages and conditions of work for clerical workers in the Wellington industrial district were unanimously agreed to at a. special general meeting cf the Wellington Clerical Workers’ Union to-night which was attended _by about 100 members. The conditions are to be presented to the employers immediately and steps will be taken forthwith to initiate proceedings for an agreement or an Arbitration Court Award. The general scale for male office workers provides for a wage of los at the age of 14 years to £6 15s after 12 years’ service, the wage thereafter to be according to merit and other qualifications. The schedule also provides that all male employees irrespective of service or class of work are to receive £4 lOs at the age of 21. The scale is graded so that- those who enter business at a later age than. 14, although they will reach the basic wage at 21 years, will not receive the wage increases- so- rapidly atxeir attaining that age. For female employees the basic wage is set down at £3 5s at the •age of 21 years irrespective of the type of work. The sca.-e for females is graded up to this level from £1 for junior typists and is also graded from the basic level up to £4 and £4 10s after five years for typists and stenographers respectively. The schedule makes provision for a five-day week where possible of 3d hours, overtime at the rate of do per cent, above normal and double pay for holidays. A fortnight’s• yearly holiday and ten public holidays in the year are asked for.
