BOXING NOTES.
By “Straight Left.”
Bert O’Keefe writes to say that Collins and Foster are “in great shape and will surprise the fans.” He has agreed to Ron. Ward, about list., fighting Max Jensen. “Ward, says Bert, “is six feet in height, strong and vigorous. He should put up a good fight.” The opening clash will be between Henry Stock, or Auckland, and Joe Collins, the Manawatu bantam champion. This trill be one of the best amateur scraps seen here for many a long day. I hen will follow Foster, oi Palmerston North, and Buss Page, Masterton. These two belligerents are fighters pure and simple. They will tear into each other like Kilkenny cats from the call to battle, with never a let-up for a single moment, as these two boys fairly revel in vigorous and sustained stoush, and never know when they are beaten. The struggle between Billy \\ ithey and Maurice Spring will be worth watching. It will be a six twominutes round encounter and packed with action. \\ ithey, who is in great condition, will, I a- manticipating. force the fight from the opening of hostilities. Tim Tracey will be in the Wellington lad’ s cornor, anti the genial Tim likes \\ itln y s chance.
The big se rap is creating enormous interest, and opinion on the result of trie contest still seems to be pretty evenly divided. Both boxers are in great nick— Reeve being at the top of liis .form, and the Palliatua hoy is going to take a power of stopping. Nicol, who is a- miner—a strong and rugged chap—is due to arrive in Pahiatua to-day. There will be an enormous attendance, and, as 1 have previously stated, there will not be a vacant, seat in the Drill Hall when the first bout commences, so j strongly advise my friends either to lx* at the hall at opening time— 7.15—or book a seat, otherwise they will never got in, as the bookings are at least four or five times heavier than on any previous occasion. So, my fistic friends, don’t say afterwards that you had not been warned. The attendance tomorrow evening will be far and away the largest in the boxing history of Pahiatua.
