NEWS FROM MAHONEY.

STAY IN IRELAND. It is significant of* Athol Mahoney that, although hard pressed to keep in trim for his engagements with the All Blacks, he found time to write to his Pahiatua friends. We publish extracts from a letter received this week from this popular Bush footballer who has made such a name for himself in the annals of international football :

‘•Wo are still managing to win our games. L think the luck must be still with us. The Test against Ireland was real tough. No rough play, but good hard football. “I did not come back to Wales with the rest of the team. The manager was kind enough to let me have a. few days off. I stayed down near Ki Harney with my uncle and saw the lakes and quite a. bit of the country. You have no idea how relieved 1 was to get away from a football for a few days. 1 never thought that I would ever get so sick of the game. All the boys are looking forward to the time when we get back homo. “The critics have always been ready to pull me to pieces, but I reckon 1 can take it. especially as I have torn two tests off. 1 might manage .to scrape into another. “This hotel we are staying at is rather good and most of those we stay at are good. But all the same we have put up at one or two crook ies.

“Wo are looking forward to our game with Wales. It is certain to be a Donnybrook. They even reckon they are going to give us a hiding to-day. “.I will ease up now as T have to go and collect my gear for the game this afternoon.”
