NAZI GOVERNMENT UNDER FIRE.

The British Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Air Anthony Eden, sternly criticised the Nazi Government at Danzig at the League Council meeting, declaring that if he seemed to stress the gravity of the situation it was because events since September raised the question whether the Danzig Government was acting in good will and good faith. Air Sean Lester, Commissioner for Danzig, described tTTe situation at Danzig a s acute as a result of the non-fulfilment of. previous promises. Herr Greiser. president of the Danzig Senate, declared that it was not intended to repudiate the Constitution. “We have tried out 75 per cent of the League’s recommendations,’’ he said. “Differences of interpretation have existed in respect of others which are of minor importance. We are the League’s child and look to the League to uphold peace and justice ” Summing up. Air Eden stated that he could not accept Herr Greaser’s view that failure to fulfil certain undertakings was not important cr admitted of differences of "interpretation. On the contrary, it was impossible to allow matters to continue. “We must try to reach a solution,” he added.

Air Eden will, prepare proposals for submission to the Council aT* - a subsequent meeting with a view to securing respect, for the Constitution which is guaranteed by the League. Tbej raporteur of the Mandates Commission inormed the Council that Japan considers herself bound by the conditions of the Pacific mandates.
