DAMAGED BY FLOODS

The consulting engineers (Messrs Seaton, Sladden and Pavitt) reported as follws at. Saturday's monthly meeting of the Pahiatiia County Council :

**No. 15 Highway, reconstruction and sealing contract: Satisfactory progress has been made during the month. On the southern section <> miles to 4 miles 11 chains (Ivoitini bridge) there has now been completed all the fillings, the drainage, practically all the base coarse metalling and about one mile of top. coarse partial thickness. Flooding across the road in several places during the recent storms caused a certain amount of damage, and Hooding in the metal pit caused some delay in metal production and crushing. Damage* lias now been repaired and the road surface restored, and

consolidation is proceeding. An excellent surface is being obtained by the use ol a steel drag. On the northern section (Makuri road to Ngawapurua bridge) there has been completed all the drainage and practically all the cuttings and fillings except the ire-grading from 13 miles 49 chains Lo 13 miles 69 chains. A second crusher is being installed to handle base coarse metal for this section. A hammer crusher is being installed for producing scaling chips. “No. 84 Station Hoad reconstruction and sealing; Satisfactory progress has been made. There has been completed to date all the drainage'., all formation work and all the base course metalling. No. 442 Manga one Valley highway, Mangnone stream bridge: Satisfactory progress has been made. All staging has been completed. All sections of the arch r.ibs have been concreted, and the keys will be cast in i few days’ time. All the reinforcing steel has been delivered and about 23 tons of cement.

“McCarthy’s bridge, Te An pa pa ro.ad : I h.. bridge and approaches are practically completed. Traffic is using the new structure, and the old one lias been dismantled. “Mangatainoka River bridge, Bridge road : Biridge and approaches have been completed with the exception of minor matters. Tfie completed job is first-class. Traffic* is using the new bridge and the old cno has been dismantled. Floods last week scoured out portion of the approach filling at the eastern end but this has been repaired. A great improvement to the water-way and the channel conditions resulted from the recent floods.

“Bexciale bridge, Tutaekara road: Bridge and approaches have boon completed and traffic is using the new structure. As with Bridge road bridge the workmanship is firstclass.”
