Advice oi the death in London * Mr .S. J. Monks, chief secretary to tbe Royal Life Saving Society, has been received in Christchurch. Mr Monks was prominently connected with life saving from inception of the movement and he and Mr \\ illiam Henry, the founder, were chiefly responsible for its success. About eight years ago lie succeeded Mr Henry as secretary to the Society.
