The fiist public shot of the present political campaign in the Waipawa electorate, was fired last night 11 l the municipal theatre at Waipuk ura n when Mr \\ L Barker official Democrat candidate addressed a large audience, the Mayor presiding. The candidate’s speech was well received. He traversed in explicit terms the policy of the party towards national problem* and dealt fully with the effect of the higher exchange with special reference to the sales tax and interest also the taxation bunions strongly condemning the Government's legislation. He stated at the close that the Democrafs were not fighting’ Independents ■or Liberals and ho was prepared to vote against the Government and later Labour if their legislation- was .unlibhra.l. Ho was cordially thanked.
