WOODVILLE IDENTITY.

With tragic suddenness, the death occurred at J- o’clock on Monclav morning of Mr Ernest Roden Griiilinton, one of Moodville’s earliest and best-known residents.

The news came as a shock to Mr Grinlinton’s many friends. He was ill on Friday but recovered later and watched the tennis at the courts nearby on Sunday. However, he became ill again in the evening, passing away suddenly.

During his long association with Woodville Mr Grinlinton has proved himself worthy of the respect and esteem of his follow citizens.

He was horn in Yorkshire England, in August, *1873. and was brought to New Zealand by his parents as an infant. He received liis education in Napier, was subsequently employed by Mr M. 1). Spriggs of that town*, and then in 1899 settled in W ooclville, where lie found employment with his brother as a cabinetmaker and undertaker. The late Mr Grinlinton was captain of the Woodvilie Fire Brigade in the early yeairs after 1900, and was connected with the brigade for many years. He was also manager of the Woodville Junior Football Club. The late Mr Grinlinton was a keen bowler, being president of the Woodville Club, and also took a prominent part in the Presbyterian ChuircH, being until a year ago a member of the board of management and of the choir.
