WOODVILLE WATER SUPPLY.

INSTALLATION OF BOOSTER. The success of the new electric, pump or booster for the Woodvill© waterworks was referred to by the Mayor, Mr H. P. Horne, at the monthlv meeting of the Woodville Borough Council. The Mayor stated that the work of connecting the pump with the water supply had been completed and had resulted in an increase in supply from 92,160 gallons per 24 hours to 143,136 gallons per 24 hours. The guarantee of the firm supplying the pump had been an increase of 40 per cent. “I feel very much relieved over the water situation,” stated the Mayor. “Of course we cannot guarantee 143,000 gallons every day as we are allowed to use the pump only ’ 16 hours daily; in practice it will be used only to give a reasonable supply. I must impress on the public that water must not be used indiscriminately, particularly through hoses being left turned on for long periods. ” Actually the borough was back to the position in 1927, stated the Mayor. The flow, at a test, was then 135,937 gallons, yet the foreman said he could not guarantee to fill the swimming baths. Since 1927 the records were: 1930 (February), 124,451 gallons; 1935 (October), 92,160 gallons. This showed that the intake pipe was still decreasing the supply, and that the rapidity of reduction was increasing. However, this had now been arrested and the position was safe as long as there w:.s not excessive -use of the water. Householders and farmers should continue to use the* same care as in the- past. “1 hope that w e will be able to last out with this supply until the loan matures in seven years,"’ the* Mayor added. “If this can be done the Council should then increase the water supply, and T hope it will be a bigger scheme. The present stream wiM never supply this borough and the most suitable source of supply will have to be decided upon.”
