SATURDAY S BARROW DERBY. The activity over the week-end amongst the feminine section cf the community wa.3 astounding. The sight of a wheelbarrow being propelled along •tin' street by a fair damsel would ordinarily occasion very real surprise but the natives who were so startled on Sunday fortunately for their peace of. mind recalled that there was a big Wheelbarrow Derby this week in Pahiatua and on the programme was an event for ladies. Hence the reason for the activity and a little sly practice. It is clear then that the men are* not going to cause all the excitqrri on*; on Saturday. The race is . timed to start at 1.30 p,.m~ by which time the town is ‘certain, to ,be packed with country ppople and, townsfolk eager •to see thc'.fuji. The .prizes are attractive a.iid the . conditions fair to every competitor. Entries are,, rolling • m thick and fast and a. thrilling-con-test is promised. Tin*. sports -comm ittee of. the-'Paliurtua.Progressive Association is organising the Derby very thoroughly and it will be ; a trial of skill and endurance the like of which has never been witnessed here before?. It has been decided to postpone the Derby from Thursday to Saturday when oven more people will be attracted to town.
