DEEP SYMPATHY. RUGBY', October 19. All newspapers express deep sympathy with Lady Alice Scott and the Duke of Gloucester on the death of Lady Alice’s. father, the Duke oif Buccleuch, which occurred suddenly soon after midnight. The duke, who was 71. underwent an operation shortly before the engagement of his third daughter. Lady Alice, to the Duke of Gloucester was announced, arid two days ago it was learned that his condition gave cause for anxiety. The Duke had been Lord Lieutenant of Dumfriesshire, since 1915, and other offices he occupied were those of Lord Clerk, Register and Keeper of the Signet, and Captain-General of the Royal Company of Archers. The following announcement, was made from Sandringham late last night: “It is with much regret that the King has to announce that owing to the serious illness of the Duke of Buccleuch the marriage ceremony of the Duke of Gloucester and Lady Alice Scott, which was to have taken place in Westminster Abbey, will laheld privately in the Chapel in Buckingham Palace on November 6.” The succession to the dukedom of the Earl of Dalkeith, who is a member of Parliament for Roxburgh and Selkirk division, creates a vacancy in that constituency.
