ASBESTOS SUITS.
PROTECTION FOR FIREMEN. As a result of expci iments by the manufacturers which involved putting men in furnaces, ail improved asbestos suit which enables the wearer to pass through Ha me unharmed is now being supplied to British fire brigades. Fire-resisting suits of this sort have been recently added to their equipment by the fire brigades of 'Sheffield and Dublin, and tests have been or are to. be* made in Edinburgh and Calcutta.
The asbestos suit is also being found valuable for use by private fire brigades in works, which have oil fuel furnaces. In the event of fire a man thus protected can safely make his way through flame to cut off the fuel supply.
Asbestos protective, clothing which resists heat has long been in use, but the asbestos suit now being manufactured commeidaily by a firm at Slough enables the wearer to withstand for some minutes the in tense heat of, a fire burning all round him. The outfit includes gloves, boots and a large helmet with mica panels through which the wearer can see.
