MAKOMAKO NEWS.

TENNIS SEASON OPENED

(From Our Own Cori*esDondent.l The tennis elub officially opened their courts for the season on Saturday afternoon. Owing to the threatening weather—which fortunately held off—or perhaps to the fact that the function was not sufficiently advertised, there was- a lack of visitors. Local members, however, turned out in force and a combined tournament was held, Miss F. Angove and Mr R. Son 11 tag being tbe winners. Mr G. Atkinson, the chairman, and Miss E. So wry, the secretary, kept things going in fine style and everything went off smoothly*. Tennis has somewhat languished of late years here, but under the capable guidance of these two and their committee it seems very probable that the club will take a new lease of life. SETTLER INDISPOSED. The many friends of Mr G. F. Hoggard will regret to hear that he is at present indisposed and has to seek expert advice. Mr Hoggard is well and popularly known in this and practically the whole district, taking a keen interest in the various societies for the advancement of the district, and, I am sure, all will wish him a. speedy recovery.
