The Pahiatua Herald PUBLISHED EVERY EVENING. MONDAY, OCTOBER 7, 1935. THE FISHING SEASON.

In outlining the campaign of Palua, tua’s new Progressive Association the president stressed the natural advantages offering m the way of good fishing. It is quite true that the district is singularly blessed with more than a. fair share of fishable rivers, as many as lour converging from opposite directions ensuring (unless the weather is generally very bad) at least one reasonably clear stream within easy striking distance. There is every reason to suppose that tourists from' abroad and keen, anglers from other parts of the Dominion, once they were attracted here, would find th© spot as beautiful and the fishing as attractive as many of the better-advertised districts in other parts of New Zealand. The season has opened iiere and elsewherebut quietly everywhere we find. To i s essentially a tranqnil sport hut that does not mean that the angler does not make a- noise upon his return with a big bag (if he has one). To date, however, there has been no noise because there have been very few bags worth boasting of. The conditions have been against success and the size of fish caught, has not been altogether encouraging. To those- not blessed with infinite patience the sport of fishing has little appeal but like many other avenues of recreation, once taken on it becomes an obsession, and every year here sees fresh disciples following ;n the footsteps of Isaac Walton. It can become a fascinating pastime—restful. healthy and often exciting.
