CARNIVAL PARK DOMAIN.

ANNUAL. MEETING. Tile annual meeting of the members of the Carnival Park Domain Board was held in the office of the secretary (Mr J. A. Walsh) yesterday afternoon, when there were present Messrs A. Ross (who presided), -J. D. Willson, A. W. Bisset, E. E. Ward, G. Harold Smith and Dr. H. T. Dawson. Owing to illness in his family Mr A. Eddie was unable to attend. The chairman’s report was as follows : “During the year a number of improvements were carried out. The flower beds fringing the lake were protected and ornamented by several loads of limestone rock, and the depressions in the paths filled with shingle. The old well in the Park has been fdled in with boulders, and a concrete top placed on the new well, the County overseer, Mr Macrae, supervising the work. New posts have been provided for the dividing fence at the southern mid of the paddock fronting the Park, and the drain leading to the ornamental lake cleaned and cleared of blockages. Several seats have; been made for the convenience of picnic parties, a, fair amount of painting done, and the sparrow nuisance in the roof of the campers’ shed checked. “Trees and shrubs planted in the -Park a few years ago are doing remarkably well, while a similar remark would apply to the shelter trees planted at the eastern and southern side of the paddock fronting the Park. fb e revenue from the motorists’ camping shed shows a marked increase on previous years, and campers are loud in their praise of the Park and its conveniences. Donatio is of shrubs and plants ai’e .gratefully acknowledged from the New Zealand Alpine and Rock Garden Society, Mrs W. Munns and Mr A. Nelson. The receipts for the year, including a balance of £55 5s 3d from last year, were £270 2s 3d and the expenditure £194 os lid, leaving a credit, balance at the end of the finanoial year, March 31, 193-5 of £75 16s 4d.”

On the motion of Dr. Dawson, seconded by Mr J. D. Wilson, Mr A. Ross was re-elected chairman for the ensuing year, and Mr J. A. Walsh was re-elected secretary (on the motion of Air A. Ross, seconded by Dr. Dawson). It was resolved to plant shelter trees at the southern end of the Park, and the selection of plants mnd dowers was left in the hands of -Hr J. Byrne, with power to expend xi K «um n ot exceeding £lO. On the motion of Air A. W.' Bisset, it was decided to write thanking Air Byrne for the active interest he has taken in the Park and for his helpful advice.

A sub-committee comnrising . the chairman (Air A. Ross), ‘ Messrs G. Harold Smith, F. E. Ward and J. Byrne and the secretary will visit the Park to-morrow .afternoon on a tour of inspection. On the motion of Mr Ross, seconded by Dr. Dawson, it was unanimously resolved that the Pahiatua Borough Council and the Pabiatua County Council be advised that a sum not exceeding £IOO he levied and collected by each of those bodies for the upkeep and maintenance of Carnival Park for the ensuing year, a lesser sum not being deemed sufficient.

A vote of thanks to the chairman concluded the meeting.
