DISGRACEFUL SPORTSMANSHIP.
(Correspondence is welcomed on interesting subjects, but we do not necessarily endorse the opinions of correspondents) (To the Editor) Sir,—l watched the basket-hall tournament in the Drill Hal! on Monday night and enjoyed ev i r\ game. The men were good as weli as the girls. Keen rivalry- was shown and the girls seem to be more evenly matched this year now that the town girls have divided up. The huge crowd oif onlookers were wildly- excited at times and bat racking was keen. But there was one regrettable feature. The hoodlum element got in and taking sides, booed the opponents to thdir own flavoured team I have never seen such a disgraceful exhibition. Von til s who or gilt to know better were shown up as the worst possible sports. Thev had nr, sense of fair ]>lay at all. One of the “gang ’ is supposed to be a young Church worker but he is no credit to any such institution. Another of their pastimes was to kick the supper-room door violently back against the wall. They- could easily- have smashed it off its. hinges. The girls themselves have no wish to let this spirit creep into basketball. which is gaining; such a. popular hold in the Rush and hope this letter may fnrus.s attention upon something that nH decent, -ports will hasten to check.—Thanking van for .sjinco. T am, etc., “ODD GIRD.” Pahialua. May 14, 1935,
