RECREATION GROUND.
SECOND EDITION
DRAINS TO BE OPENED. AREA TO BE TOP-DRESSED. Cr. W. X. Brown reported to th© Borough Council last evening that an inspection had been made of the Revcreation Ground by the old committee and recommended that the existing mole drains be cleaned at the exit points and that a field pipe be inserted at the end of each mole drain so that the entrance to the mole drains would be kept clear. Also that the field be cleared of all rushes and the ground to be top dressed. Cr. Brown moved that the foregoing be referred to the Works Committee with power to act. The motion was seconded by Cr W. A. Carthew. He said he had had experience of a similar type of recreation ground in another town. The difficulty there was overcome by running a main drain down »:he centre of the field and leading mole drains into it from each side. If the present mole drains, however, as suggested by the recreation committee, were torn out then it could be seen, if it was necessary to make further drainage provision. Cr. J. W. Sturton was of the opinion that before anything was done to the Recreation ground the services of a surveyor should be obtained and the levels of the ground taken as he was or the opinion that there is a dip in the centr * of the area in question. Cr. T. W. Watts supported Cr. Sturton and stated that as he had in mind an ideal recreation ground and park at the present Recreation Ground site, thought should be given to the taking of levels before any draining is contemplated.
After considerable, discussion Cr. Brown’s motion was put and ear> ried.
