The golden jubilee of St>. Patrick’s College will be celebrated in April next. For months past a coimniittee of the Old Boys’ Association of the College ha.s been organising so that this great event in the history of one of the leading educational Institutions -j the Iv minion may be fittingly cole In at* The foundation stone of St. Patrick’s College ~ was laid by His Grace, the late Archbishop Redwood. on 16th March, 1884. and the college was opened by His Grace oil Ist June, 1885. Under tlio constitution o»f the Society of Mary, the most important work of the Marist Fathers is that of education and from its foundation the college has been staffed by members of that Society. For fifty years the college has- been drawing to its roll boys not only from Wellington but also from; all parts of tlie Dominion.. At its foundation the college was the first Catholic secondary school in New Zealand and for many years it was the only one.
