With thy exception of the Prime Minister, Rt Hon. G. W. Forbes, yesterday's speakers were backbenchers. The conviction was expressed by Mr Forbes that in revising its tariff New Zealand had carried out to the full the spirit of the Ottawa Agreement. He said the new tariff was well proportioned for it did not lose sight of the claims of the British manufacturer and at the same time it recognised the value of local industries The Dominion had to do all it could to develop those industries which could lie properly developed in this country and to give assistance to our primary producers. From now onward members wdl have to work longer hours. Tn accordance with notice given the previous day till- Prime Minister moved that Government business in future take precedence on Wednesdays and that the sitting hours en Tuesdays Wednesdays and Tlnusdavs he exvended to midnight.
