Electric Telegi aph—Press Association DUNEDIN, August 24. The Dominion basketball tournament was continued to-day in the Drill Hall, the weather being too wet for outside play. Results are as follow :

Major section: Wellington 16. Canterbury' 11; Otago 18, Hawke's Bay 6; Southland 19, Auckland 10; Auckland 21, Hawke’s Bay 11 ; Canterbury 10, Southland 10; Wellington 17, Otago 8. Minor section: Ashburton 21, West Coast 9; Waikato 13, Southland 6; Bush 16, Buller 9; South Canterbury 16, North Otago 9; Marlborough 16, Wairarapa 14; Poverty Bav 17. Wellington 8: Waikato 15. Bush 5; South Canterbury 24, Manawatu 13. Wellington has established a lead which ensures the championship, and Canterbury is in a strong position for second place. Commenting cn the first day's play in the Dominion Basket-ball tournament being held at Dunedin. the Otago Daily Times describes the two Push matches as follows: SOUTH CANTERBURY v. BUSH. Bush opened the scoring in tho match against South Canterbury, this being the latter’s second game during the morning. The game was held up for a few minutes when M. Gunn received a slight facial injury, but she was able to continue in the game after two minutes’ spell. The teams wers: South Canterbury.—J. Ivey, D Strachan, S. Christie, D. Andrews, J. Macdonald, J. Hendry, J. Douglas, W. Ives, N. Price. Bush.—D. Mahoney, M. Mahoney, B Smith, M. Gunn. M. Smith. 51. Miller, M. Wills, P. Miller. b! Brown.

South Canterbury’s forwards were receiving a fair share of ball but could not- make much headway against Bush’s defence, in which D. Mahoney, who was a member of the North Island team in 1928, caused J. Ivey a good deal of Double. J M'Donald was clearing well in the centre for South Canterbury, while D. Andrews was also playing well in this section. South Canterbury were dominating play at the end' of 10 minutes, although Bush’s forwards were getting a fail- share of play. Several speculative shots at goal missing the ring. On the second speil there was no score in the first five minutes’ play, although both sets of forwards had attempted shots but failed. Bush securing two or three good opportunities from clever interceptions by its centre, in which 51. Smith was particularly active. At the end of 10 minutes there was still no conversion for either side, when J. Ivey was awarded an unguarded pass right under the goal and converted. Having opened its account, South Canterbury continued to score whenever it secured in its forward line, while Bush’s forwards found it impossible to convert against South Canterbury’s defence.
