WHEN ANGLERS MEET.

BRIGHT SMOKE CONCERT. WELLINGTON VISITORS. Not even the elements could dampen the enthusiasm of those who attended the annual smoke concert of the Pahiatua Anglers" Club in the Foresters’ Hall last evening. Because of the pouring rain the attendance was not quite so large as anticipated but as one speaker put it—if the quantity was missing the quality was there. The tables were attractively set out and in every respect the “smoke-oli” was a distinct improvement 011 the average function of this nature. Under the chairmanship of Mr J. Hutton, president of the local Anglers’ Club, there was never a dull moment and the gathering was unanimously voted as one of the brightest for years. Two neighbouring clubs, Palmerston North and! Dannevirke, were represented and the principal guests were Dr. G. V* Anson, chairman of the Wellington, Acclimatisation Society, Mr E. Wiffin, secretary of that body, and Air J. Brassed. Pahiatua representative on the Wellington Council. The chairman extended a hearty welcome to the visitors and members of kindred clubs who had braved the elements that night. Particularly did lie welcome the visitors from Wellington, Dr. Anson, Me ssre Wiffin and Brassed. Pahiatua appreciated very much their presence and hoped their stay jvould be a happy one. THE 1 OAST LIST.

After the loyal toast, the toast of “Kindred Clubs” was proposed by Mr R. H. Taylor, secretary of the local club. The Palmerston North Club, he said, was the baby of the clubs in that it was the latest to be formed but they were the winners of the Stockwell Cup last year so that they were no babies so far as fishing was concerned. The Feilding anglers had not yet made a name for themselves with the Stockwell Clip but it would be the wish of ad time sports that they win the trophy in the very near future as associated with Feilding was Air Stockwell, the donor of the cup. It was solely through his action, in fact, in presenting the cup that anglers from all parts had gathered that evening. The Dannevirke club had already won the trophy and Woodville had gone very near to carrying it off on several occasions. The Stockwell Oup had done a great deal in this district by promoting competition and generally •fostering the art. For the kindred clubs fitting replies were made by Messrs Voss (Palmerston North) W. Welch and E. W. Alarsh (secretary of the Dannevirke Club). Other toasts honoured were:
