KISSING BARRED.
Kisses hold all kinds of dangers for the unwary. In Italy kisses may only be exchanged with impunity at railway termini. An engaged couple seen kissing in a public park at Florence were warned by the authorities that a repetition of the offence would mean three months in prison. Few nations regard kissing with tolerance. America, France, Austria and Russia have their AntiKissing Leagues, and hold that kissing is unhygienic because each kiss conveys a minimum of 40,000 bacteria. Kissing in China and Japan is regarded with disgust, while in India. it is reserved for strict privacy. During the filming of the story of the Willow Pattern Plate, a British film company at Shanghai found it impossible to get Chinese actors to kiss. They regard kissing as a form of cannibalism, and refractory children are usually threatened by their mothers with a. “white man’s kiss.” This usually has the desired effect.
