YOUNG LIFE ENDED.
LATE MR. JAMES H. WALSH. Clue of the saddest dispensations of providence, the cutting down of a young life in its prime, reached its culmination at the Danner irke Public Hospital yesterdav afternoon when there passed away. after a long and distressing illness. Mr James Harvey Walsh, elder son of Mr and Mrs J. A. Walsh, of Pahiatnn. He was 29 years of age. Born at Hobart, Tasmania, the deceased came to New Zealand when an infant with his parents. He was educated at the Convent School in Pahiatua. and later at St. Patrick's College, "Wellington, where he studied for four years. In his youth he earned distinction as a n - citer and essayist and at com pet *- tions in Wellington. Napier. Masterton and Pahiatua he gained a succession of first prizes. He was. too. an excellent debater. He simply* devoured literature and having a. retentive memory lie accumulated a. great fund of knowledge on a variety of subjects. It was not surprises then that it should l>e sometimes said of him that he carried ‘‘an old head on young shoulders.” The deceased joined the staff of the I nion _ Bank of Australia in 1922. resigning some twelve months ago on account of i?l-liealth. He was of a quiet and reserved nature, held in the highest esteem for liis integritv and ninny other admirable qualities, not th< least oi which was his devotion to his parents and his home Athletic attainments were also his. Ho was a good swimmer, having learnt at the local baths and he enjoyed the recreation of tennis, bowls and golf. Left to mourn a verv acute loss are his parents, Mr and Mrs T .4 Walsh. two sisters (slr< Gordon .T. Gregorv. Gisborne, »ud Miss Glad vs Walsh, Palmerston North) and one brother (Mr Sefton "W *dsh. of Wellington). The heartfelt «vmpathy of a verv wide circle of friends will go out + o the narents especially. whose suffering during the last few days has not been easv to bear. The funeral will leave St. BriVkTa Church, Pahiatua. to-morrow <S;it—n relay > afternoon for the Pahiatua. Oemeterv and to-morrow morning; at 7 o’clock requiem mass will he* hold.
