PROFESSIONAL GOLF.
SECOND EDITION
OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE. ROEHAMPTON TOURNEY. United Press Assn —By Electric Telegraph—Copvright. LONDON, April 5. In the Reehampton £2OO professional golf tournament sixteen qualified. They include S. L. King, assistant professional at Knole Park, 136; R. A. Whitcombe and Cotton. 139; Davies 140: Lacey 141; Mitchell and Barber 143; Perry. Kinyon and Holland 144.
Those who did nop qualify include Padgham and Duncan 146; Boomer and Gadd 147 ; Allis and Havers 148; Dailey (who is the holder) 152; and Compston 153.
The newspapers emphasise the brilliance of King, who is 22 years of age. Potentially a fine golfer, he led the field of seventy-four professionals with two rounds of sixty-eight, a record for the altered course. He might have done Letter in both rounds ; he had a score of 29 for nine holes in the first round, when he broke down and had 26 for eight holes in the second round. Unfortunately he has little desire for golfing honours. The failure of the majority of the prominent players to qualify was due to had putting.
