DISSENT MARS KAIKOCRA MEETING. COUNCILLOR SUSPENDED. Prior to the transaction of business at a recent meeting of the Kaikoura County Council, the chairman (Mr 1. Monk) said that he was going to name Councillor H. E. Eccles for the way in which he had questioned the minute book and by his remarks, reflecting on. the speaker, as chairman, and on +li.« integrity of the engineer (Mr P. Burhovne). M.r Eiccles; No reflection whatever. The chairman: I am going to sus]>end Mr Eccles until such time as he sees fit to withdraw or retract his insinuations or apologise, and 1 ask him to withdraw from the meeting. Air Eccles: I refuse to- withdraw. The chairman: You will not he allowed to sit until you apologise and then only by the unanimous consent of the council. Will you leave the table ? —No. The chairman to tha engineer: Will you please notify the police to come here. Mr Eccles: I wish to Iho chairman : No explanations ! Mr Eccles: T have the letter here that you question and your big stick methods will get you nowhere. Mr Humm : Have you the power to do this thing, Mr Chairman ? You have said some prettv hard things to Mr Eccles yourself. Why rot leave it to the meeting ? The chairman: That i s my ruling. Mr J. Boyd: I am leaving also. Mr D. Boyd: Mr Chairman, I am satisfied that no reflection whs cast on the engineer and J am sick and tired of this ccntmual nagging and fighting at the council table. Messrs J. Boyd, 1). Hovel and Eecles then left the meeting r.ftd the business was proceeded with. <
