METHODIST SYNOD.
A CHRISTIAN SOLUTION. THE UNEMPLOYED PROBLEM. Electric Telegranh—Press Association HAWERA, This Day. The Taranaki-Wanganui Methodist Synod Assembly re-affirmed the text of the Dominion committee’s recommendations in reference to the unemployed situation, and also resolved
“That this Synod believes there is a Christian solution to the problem and that no solution other than the Christian solution will prove satisfactory. The Synod therefore suggests that steps be taken to call a conference of accredited representatives of the Churches to formulate a scheme and evolve a policy to which united Christians throughout the country will rally. To. this end the Synod asks the president of the Methodist Conference to« act along the lines suggested.” Synod also passed a. resolution appreciating the Government’s refusal to introduce a State lottery, protested against the suggested amendments to the Gaining Laws and tho increased facilities for the conduct of art unions, pleading for the more effective censorship of motion pictures and literature, and approving of the work of the Bible in Schools League and New Zealand Alliance. A remit from a circuit quarterly meeting asking Synod to recommend that no Methodist Minister be eligible for office of civic responsibility, except as sanctioned by the Conference, was rejected.
