The killed and injured as a result of road motor accidents already this year has exceeded last year’s, the total being 213,317. The total since 1918 exceeds 2,000,000. A. meeting of the Pedestrians’ Association, at which relatives of victims will attend, will urge the Government to take immediate action, specially emphasising the case of a Scottish family whose three children were killed within a year at the same spot. Ihe second report of the Select Committee on the Road Traffic Compensation for Accidents and the Emergency Treatment Bills deals L the provision for the payment qf doctors and hospitals for services in attending persons injured in motor accidents.
The committee proposed that doctors and hospitals should be paid 12s 6d for attending and treating each person so injured. Thev have decided that the best way to colie th e money is to make the liabilities third-party risks, which are compulsory insurance. The additional cost of insurance, it is stated, would be negligible.
