MUSIC AND COMPETITIONS.

A PLEASANT AFTERNOON AT KONINI, (From Our Own Corresnondent.) A very pleasant afternoon was speut_ at the monthly meeting of the Konini Women's Institute, held, in the Konini Hall. There was a. good attendance of members and the president (Mrs D. Kellvi welcomed visitors from the Makomako Institute (Mesdumes Day and and Misses Sargent, Day and Sow ryT and also Mesdames Bovens, Dempsey-, Scott and Staples, ot Pahiatua. llie usual business was dealt with and arrangements made in connection with the third Institute birthday party which takes place on the 13th of October.

Mrs Eising gave a very clever and instructive demonstration on brasswork which was followed with much interest by those present. During tlie afternoon songs 'were rendered by Mrs Bovens and Miss Sowry, and a playette, “The Night of Horrors,” was given by Misses Sargent, Day and Sown, all of which were much appreciated. A competition for the best six bulb bmonis was won by Miss H. Ross, Miss Fear being second and Miss Henry third.

A written word competition consisting of signs and public notices was won by Mrs Tucker. A very dainty afternoon tea was then served by the host, -ses Mrs Milne and Miss K. Delehantv. The singing of the National Anthem brought a very enjovable gathering to a close. Mi-s Hirst presided at the piano.
