The Farmers’ Union will meet tomorrow afternoon to deal with various important matters. Jt was definitely stated on Saturday that the winning ticket. DK2233in the St. .John Amulance art union has been produced by Mr L. 13. Evans, of Ivaiapoi, a member of the North Canterbury Hospital Board, who thus wins the Morris car.
Pahiatua anglers are busy preparing for the season which opens on October Ist. Considerable enthusiasm is being manifested, and very good sport is anticipated. The local Club will meet on Wednesday evening when a large attendance is expected.

While practising for ihe racing drivers’ 500 miles race at Brooklancls, Captain Eyston, driving an M.G. Midget, established three new world records for baby cars, including 100 kilometres at 106.72 miles per hour. The little British M.G. car now holds all “baby” records up to 25 hours.
At least 91 persons were killed by a. hurricane which struck Tampico (Mexico), spreading death and destruction 300 miles inland. Delayed dispatches from San Luis Potosi "reported that 80, and possibly 100 were drowned in a flood when a dam gave way. More than 100 in other localities were injured. Thousands are homeless and the damage is believed to be many millions.
Prior to the commencement of business at the last meeting of the Woodville Borough Council the Mayor referred to the death of the late Mr Samuel Bolton. Mr Elder said that Mr Bolton was well known to all. He had taken an active 'part in the social, business and public life of the district, and Ilia demise was a great loss to the town and district. A motion of sympathy with the relatives was passed, councillors standing in silence.
