VERDICT FOR DEFENDANT. United Press Assn.— By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. SYDNEY, September 5. Mr John O. Eldridge, the Labour candidate at the last election in the Premier’s constituency, Croydon, has sued Mr B. S. Stevens, Premier of New South Wales, claiming £SOOO for defamation arising out of that campaign. Mr Eldridge alleges that his prospects were prejudiced by Mr Stevens’s public comments linking him with a religious controversy which occurred while plaintiff was a member of the House > of Representatives some time before. A jury to-day gave a verdict in favour of defendant.
