MEN’S REP. HOCKEY MATCH.
Several Busk players are featured in a detailed report published by the Woodville Examiner ot the above match: Bush attacked at the outset. Strand sending; the ball into the circle where sticks and obstruction enabled the greens to clear. It was give and take in neutral territory until greens were awarded a penalty corner, but the blues got well away and B. Lett nipped down the wing to centre beautifully. Ruakere tested the goalie with a hot one, but Tildesley saved well. Bush were forced to a short corner and .Bennett endeavoured to net, but Bush got away from a melee in front of the goal and Strand ran the length of the field and attempted to net, his shot trickling outside the post. Wairarapa now set up a series of hot attacks. A free hit gave temporary relief but Strand was penalised. The pressure was eased when Hooper hit behind. The Bush backs were given plenty of work at this stage, when Wairarapa were awarded several free hits for sticks and kicking the ball. The referees were keeping a close eVe on the game. B. Lett hooked one over to Hutchinson who gave sticks in hitting to the centre. Bush forwards kept up a hot attack, Fulton v E. Lett and Worthington doing good work. Fisher relieved with good stick work, but West sent a good shot to Hutchinson, to Strand, who took the ball to the circle and sent in a sizzler. The goalie cleared well, though he took a nasty knock on the shoulder.
The game was held up for injuries to Worthingtofl, who was hit on the nose by" a rising ball. On resuming, Wairarapa goalie saved, and the' green backs cleared upheld. West was playing well and sent good strong shots to his forwards.
Harris went out to bring off a smart save when Whitburn sent in a dangerous shot. The Bush goalie later turned another weak shot and Bush cleared upheld. Bush were having the best of the game at this stage. After fast play up and down the held, Bush were again in the circle, Fulton doing good work. Half-time sounded with no score. After the spell Wairarapa set up a series of attacks. Ward intercepted a pass from Cummings and brought the ball upheld. The leather travelled to the centre and across to Strand who sent m a good shot which Hutchinson picked up in the circle, narrowly missing with a good shot. Hutchinson netted a moment later, but the. goal' ’ was disallowed ror an infringement. There was a sudden change in play, Wairarapa sweeping up the held, and S. Fisher shot an easy goal: Wairarapa 1 Bush 0 Wairarapa continued to attack, two short corners being followed by hot work in the Bush circle. Piper temporarily relieved, but the long grass in this half of the held made it difficult for the Bush backs and Wairarapa forwards. Ward, Hutchinson and Fulton participated in a good rush up the held and Ruakere netted a smart shot a split-second after the whistle sounded for sticks. The Wairarapa forwards were doing good work and the Bush backs had to indulge in some hard hitting. Bush got away again and Hutchinson just missed with a stinger. Iveedwell did good work in stemming a rush in which Strand, Fulton, Hutchinson, Ward and Ruakere participated. There was good stick work in fast play up and down the held. Harris saved again well. Strand beat three men in a sprint down the wing. Worthington reached the circle but missed with a shot. Bush endeavoured to regain the circle but the defence of Oiunings and Watts was good. After some strenuous work. Bush reached the circle again and Hutchinson netted with a good clean shot: Bush 1 Wairarapa 1 There was no further score, and the game ended with Bush attack-
