GOLDS CAUSED BY GERMS. HOW THEY BEGIN—AND HOW TO CURE THEM. Colds are spread by germs—germs tliat float in the very air yo.u breathe. These tiny germs, or microbes, enter the system through the nose or mouth. They lodge in the numerous little cavities of the nose, throat and lungs, where the warm, moist conditions provide an ideal breedingground. Once there, they multiply rapidly. These germs then inflame the mucous membranes lining the nose and throat, and cause those membranes to “respond 5 * by flooding the breathing passages with mucus or phlegm. The way to- cure colds, then, is first to destroy the germs that cause the condition, and then get rid of the condition. There has recently been evolved a new scientific treatment that works in this way. The method is to sprinkle a few drops of Karsote Inhalant on to a handkerchief and inhale the vapours that arise. Laboratory tests have proved that Karsote vapour will completely destroy the germs of colds, influenza and catarrh in less than 10 minutes. Although Karsote is such an effective germicide, iti is perfectly safe in use, even by children. Moreover, it is very pleasant to inhale. Each inward breath you take floods every crevice of the bronchial tubes, right down to the bottom of the lungs, 'with an atmosphere in which germs cannot possibly live. At the same time, the penetrating vapour opens up stuffed nostrils and clears away that unpleasant mucus from the back of the throat. Karsote is put up in handy little bottles with sprinkler top and screw cap. So it is just the kind of thing one can conveniently carry in a pocket or a. handbag—ready for use anywhere, and at any time. Most chemists and stores now sell Karsote in two sizes: small Is 6d, and large 2s 3d.

The death occurred at Auckland on Friday last, of Dr. Claude Bedford Welsbv, F.8.C.5., a former resident of Wellington, aged 52 years.
