PRESENTATION AT HAMUA.

FOOTBALLERS AND THEIR PRESIDENT. (From Our o*wn Correspondent.) About fifty Hamua football supporters and their friends gathered at the residence of Mr and Mrs A. E. Bmwn to do honour to this popular couple, Ylr Brown being the popular president of the Hamua Football Club. Singing and billiards occupied a pleasant evening. Ylrs D. Bourke and Miss Peggy Ryan supplied the music.

After supper Ylr P. Davies (chairman) explained the reason for the party and called on Ylr Kiddie. Patron of the Hamua Football Club to speak. Ylr Kiddie said that Ylr Brown was well deserving of some appreciation of the great work he had done for the district.

Ylr YV. Ryan, selector of team, said the* team had always done its best and stuck together, no grouse coming from the men he had put out of the team. Ylr Brown had always been a. great helper in the chib’s interests. Yfr Y 7 al Tripe, the previous year's selector, said that Ylr Brown was his mainstay when he did the selecting because the president’s car was rd-ivay-s at the disposal of the team. He wished their guests the best of happiness.

Ylr R. J. Smith. President of the Bush Rugby Union, wished YIT and Yfrs Browii long life to enjov the pleasure, of holding the cups' (avoii outright) for the rest of their lives. He said the way the cups were kept was a great credit to Yfrs Brown.

Ylr M. Galvin said he was pleased to join in with the good wishes liestowed on Yfr and Mrs Brown Ylr Brown deserved much of the creditfor the team winning the cups. Ylr D. Bourke said In' had heard that Ylr Brown was finished with football but he hoped not. Ylr Brown was wanted now more than ever. Young players were coming on who wanted the helping hand of such a. keen supporter. He wished Ylr and YTrs BroAvn loner life and happiness. YTr Gordon Ylabey, captain of the team, in Ylr J. Galvin's absence, wished Ylr and Ylrs Brown the best cf health. Yfr Jack YYolland also said he had known Yfr Brown since boyhoodsince the days of coaches in the Hutt —and he had always been a very fine sport. He wished Yfr and Ylrs Brown long life to enjoy the holding of the cups.

Mr YV. J. Smith remarked that in the early days every footballer had to help himself and it made things very much better when a team had such a supporter as Yfr Brown who had done so much to keep the team together.

Ylr J. Galvin then made the presentation. He said he felt Aery pleased to have the honour of making the presentation on behalf of the footballers. It Avas only fitting, as a mark of appreciation of the great Avork the Brown family had done towards a.'i sport in Hamua. He had to apologise to Yfrs Brown that the enlargement of the Hamua football team was not finished, but he would bring it along a s soon as it arrived. He asked Yfrs Brown to- accept the cups Avon outright as ai present from the Hamua footballers in appreciation of services rendered. He then asked Yfr Brown to accept a. case of LoeAve pipes and expressed the hope that Ylr Brown would enjoy many a good smoke. He added that he hoped Ylr and Mr s Brown would enjoy many years of health and happiness. Yfr Brown was received with loud applause and the singing of “For He’s a Jolly Good FteDow.” He said that what he- and his wife had done had only been a pleasure. Whatever happened he liked to see the best- team win. He appreciated the pipes very much but thought he did not deserve them. He and Yfrs Brown would, see that the cups were kept free of dust. The singing of “Aukl Lang Syne” in the early hours of the morning brought a jolly gathering to a close.
