According to this report, which appears in what is probably the most authoritative journal of its kind, the contention that the cost of cultivating land is too high to be profitable is not borne out by figures. On the other hand the claim that production can be increased as a result of cultivation is fully substantiated. This report should certainly give farmers in this country some food for thought and perhaps also some encouragement to go ahead and prepare land for the growing of supplementary fodder crops with which to even up the food supplies throughout the year.
