What is probably the most elaborate example oi automatic traffic control in the world has been inaugurated in Trafalgar Square, London. Traffic control bv light signals is rapidly extending in London, where every week about 12 new systems are installed, but owing to the large number of streets converging on Trafalgar Square and the fact that it is l daily, the new system is the most ambitious yet undertaken. A unique feature of the new system is that the traffic actually controls itself n<*cording to it- need by means of detectors laid in the roadway. Ihe s v stem will replace 16 pointduty policemen.
