“Guard,” said the passenger, “I want you to see that I get off the train at To Kuiti (says M.A.T. in the Auckland Staid. “I am bound to go to sleep and always wake up in a terrible temper, but don’t you take any notice of* that, just bundle me q-ff with my bag; you wdn’t forget— Te Kuiti!” “I won’t forget,*’ said the guard, as lie extended his hand and then drew it back and placed something in his right-hand trousers pocket. On went the train through the night and early morning, and it was still full of running when it reached Auckland. Two minutes later the s tat ion in a s ter approached the guard. “Guard.” he said, “there’s a passenger here who was booked to Te Kuiti and lias , been carried on to Auckland. He is swearing something awful and threatens to complain to headquarters at Wellington.” “Swearing, is her” said the guard. “Well. I aon’t know what he said, but 1 11 bet. he is a novice compared to the chap I put off at Te Kuiti.”
