HUKANUI HAPPENINGS

The Hukanui Women's Institute* held a social and dance in the Hukanui*Hall in aid of the Wairoa earthquake relief fund, which proved very successful. The dancing was interspersed with items presented bv the children of the Hukanui and Kakariki schools. OOier eniovable items were contributed by Mis W. Watkins. Mrs R. H. Parker and Mrs Brown, as well as a well-acied plav entitled “Thv Father and Thy Mother** bv the ‘vouuger members oi the Hainua Womens Institute, f Airs E. A. Harrington donated a verv attrueti velv iced cake to raffled. This brought in £2. Mrs L. Wenham was the lucky possessor of the number which was drawn out of a hat by little Joan Mabey. At the close of the dance it was stated that the cake and door taking** amounted to nearly £*9. At the Wowas decided to’ make the sum up to is lO and forward to the earthquake I relier fund at Wairoa. The homemade suppei, which was enjoved by all. was provided by the members of the Women’s Institute. The music tor the dancing wa* supplied bv Misses R. Eddie. D. ITavies. 1. Hawkes. I>. Leith, N. Edge and Mrs W. Cwentvman Miss B. Udy has returned to her home in Petone after spending an. extended holiday in Hukanui as ! tiie guest of Mr and Mrs C. UdyMrs W. O. Leith has returned to Hukanui after spending a few days at her daughter's home in Gre\town, and her many friends hope she ; s restored to her usual health. Mrs B. Ma*on. who has been on a long holiday to the Old Coun.tr> J was a visitor to Hukanui for the week-end and was the guest of Mi* and Mrs J. Grant. The wmd-up ball of the Miniature Rifle Club was held and greatly enjoyed by all although the attendance was not as large as anticipated. due to counter-attractions. After supper Mr R. W. Foss, president of the club, in a few wellchosen words, thanked all who had helped in any way for the benefit of flie club and those who had donated trophies for the past season. The winners of the various trophies were as follow: Men's club cliampionship. Mr R. W. Foss; handicap aggregate, Mr C. R. Eddie. Other trophies were won bv Messrs W. Watkins, C. R. Eddie*. R. W Foss, R Morns. E. R. Daldy. R Morris, W. Watkins. W. Twentyman and R. T. Udy. Indies' club championship, Ma-s R. W. Foss; haudica|> aggregate, Miss E. Cavanagli. Other trophies were won by Mrs J. Grant, Miss E. Cavamigh. Mrs Foss, Mrs R. Cavanagh and Mrs Watkins. Dancing was carried on until tho early hours of the morning. Extras were kindly plaved by Misses A. RKddie and I. Hawkes.
